WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance and health of the skin. It involves using fine, sterile needles to create tiny punctures or micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. This process triggers the body’s natural healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins for maintaining the skin's structure and elasticity.

How It Works:

The procedure is typically done using a device called a dermaroller or a more advanced tool known as a microneedling pen, which allows for greater precision. As the needles penetrate the skin, they create controlled micro-traumas, which in turn activate the skin's wound-healing process. This helps to rejuvenate the skin by improving its texture and firmness, and it can reduce the appearance of various skin concerns such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen production, microneedling helps plump the skin, reducing the visibility of wrinkles and giving the face a more youthful appearance.

  • Scarring: Microneedling is especially effective for acne scars, surgical scars, and other forms of scarring. It breaks down old tissue and encourages the formation of new collagen-rich tissue.

  • Hyperpigmentation and sun damage: The treatment can help with uneven skin tone, dark spots, and areas of hyperpigmentation, creating a smoother and brighter complexion.

  • Stretch marks: By promoting skin regeneration, microneedling can improve the appearance of stretch marks.

  • Enlarged pores: Regular treatments can reduce the size of pores, making the skin appear smoother and more refined.

Benefits of Microneedling:

  1. Non-invasive: Unlike more invasive procedures like laser treatments or chemical peels, microneedling has minimal downtime, with most patients experiencing redness for only 24 to 48 hours.
  2. Versatility: It can be used on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, hands, and abdomen, making it an effective option for treating multiple areas.
  3. Enhanced absorption: The micro-channels created by the needles also allow for better absorption of topical serums, such as hyaluronic acid or vitamin C, boosting the effectiveness of the products applied during or after the procedure.

The Process:

  • Preparation: The skin is cleansed, and a numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the treatment.
  • Treatment: The microneedling device is passed over the skin in a controlled manner, creating the micro-injuries.
  • Aftercare: Post-treatment, the skin may feel tight or sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn. Aftercare includes the application of soothing serums and sunscreen, as the skin will be more sensitive to UV exposure.

Results:

Results are not immediate, as the skin needs time to repair itself. However, after a few weeks, improvements in texture and tone will become noticeable. For optimal results, multiple sessions (usually 3 to 6) are recommended, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Microneedling is a highly effective, safe, and affordable treatment for individuals looking to improve the overall quality of their skin. It has become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments due to its broad range of benefits and minimal downtime.

At Empire Academy of Aesthetics, our Microneedling course provides you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to perform this in-demand treatment with confidence.
